Welcome

You've probably been told about this site by a friend or seen/heard/read about us in the media. You're probably wondering what all the fuss is about. What we are doing, why we are doing it, why you should be involved and what kind of change you can make by filling out our expression of interest form.

What Are We Doing?

Making a stand, taking back the power, being pro-active, not taking it laying down! HAVING A GO!

We are utilising the power of the internet to create a massive list of people in the UK who want lower energy costs. People (like you) who declare an expression of interest on this site, are stating that they are prepared to switch energy companies at the same time as everyone else on the list. Quite simply WE ALL SWITCH!

We hope to have a list so long that we, the consumers, become a Big Player and can initiate a bidding environment between energy companies to win the WeAllSwitch.com contract. We are hoping that by acting as one, we can make energy companies become more competitive.

Next to no personal details are needed now. Just fill in the Interest Form and we'll be in touch. Only after the bidding process will members receive forms to sign which will initiate a switch to the winning company. It will be each members final decision to sign or not.

Even if you are locked into a contract with a particular company let us know the rough date the contract ends on the form and we will be in touch.

If energy companies refuse to deal effectively with WeAllSwitch.com as a whole in the first year, we will arbitrarily pick an energy company which is reasonably cheap and recommend a switch to the membership. Hopefully this will send a message that we mean business (literally) in future years.

We are playing hard-ball because, with the greatest respect, our MPs and regulators do not seem able to do so.

Why Are We Doing It?

Energy companies do not appear to be playing fair as reported by The Times at the start of the year. Wholesale energy prices have dropped significantly but domestic prices have not. This happens time and time again. The Government, Consumer Focus, OfGem and many other people and organisations are asking the Big Six energy companies to reduce domestic energy prices to no avail. They are just not listening to them. Why should they? Their profits are up and no-one is making them. They are using the perceived high price of wholesale energy to justify the domestic price hikes. Anyone demanding lower prices is being labelled as not green. They have the market sewn up and we are paying the price. The list members of WeAllSwitch.com are not satisfied with the progress that has been made either recently or in the past towards fair and reasonable energy pricing and it is a nut that we can collectively crack.

Not that wholesale prices, as you know them, are always entirely what they appear. It has been reported by the BBC (well worth listening to the podcast) in late October 2008, that up to 80% of fuel purchases made by energy companies may not be on the open market at all. That there are in effect under the counter deals which are hidden from scrutiny. Publicly available wholesale energy prices could therefore be a very poor indicator of actual energy prices. Energy companies are not under any obligation to provide detailed accounts about all transactions and we as the end user are being given the impression, by them, that they are keeping prices high to buy fuel stocks for us. How kind! However, WeAllSwitch.com doubts very much that energy companies are paying significantly higher prices for fuel. The more logical answer is that they could be dealing well below the public wholesale price but telling the consumer that it is costing them more.

At WeAllSwitch.com we believe there is a degree of profiteering going on, that the excess money is being paid to board members, executives and shareholders, not towards future development or wholesale purchases as the companies claim. Considering the massive profits these companies post year after year, you would expect that they could afford to cushion loyal customers from exorbitant prices. They do not appear to want to.

We think it's time to stop being loyal and to start being pro-active.

Why Should You Be Involved?

It's all very well looking at comparison sites and trying to get a bit better deal. In fact OfGem recently announced that the market was competitive because people were free to switch and did so in significant numbers. However, when you realise that board members of all the Big Six energy companies meet on a regular basis it should begin to dawn on you that you are being presented with little to no choice at all. What is the point in comparing like with like? One is a bit cheaper this month the other the next, but all the time the prices are steadily going up. Why do most of the deals lock you into a contract? Why do they take so long to switch you over? When did you last get a letter telling you you direct debit was going down?

We at WeAllSwitch.com want to take the power back and create a consumer driven market where the consumer tells the retailer what they are prepared to pay, not the other way around. We will continually search out the best price for the members and take it to them. Forget you switching, we will bring the deal to you, regularly.

What Will Change?

Nothing, if you don't express an interest. Everything, if you do. We CAN become a force to be reckoned with, IF, we act together. Do it now. Complete the expression of interest form. You are not signing your life away, just expressing an interest. You will always have the last say by signing the physical switching form. You don't even need to give us your name at the moment. Have a look at the form and see if you want to be part of the biggest social revolt of modern times or just keep paying that ever increasing direct debit. The choice is yours.

If you do think this is a good idea please tell a friend. The bigger we are, the stronger we are.
