Pre-Payment Meters
Pre-payment meter customers are a different kettle of fish altogether. Some meters have been fitted because of bad debt orders, some can not be changed or removed because they are in arrears (possible if the per therm price has gone up but the meter has not been changed). A common framework of best practice, in relation to the approach taken to metered customers, does not appear to be universally deployed across all energy companies.We are not actively looking at switching pre-payment customers in this first switch. We would however be interested in looking at solutions on how to do this and would urge metered customers to provide us with contact details below. If we get enough interest we will, in all likelihood, liaise with one or more charities which have more experience of the pre-payment meter system and see how we can bring some pressure to bear on energy companies to treat pre-payment customers as fairly as direct debit customers.
